Chennai Government Maternity Hospital fire: 47 children are safe: Minister Sekar Babu

47 children have been rescued from a fire at the Thiruvallikeni Government Maternity Hospital in Chennai; Minister Sekar Babu said that children affected by smoking are being given intensive treatment. A sudden fire broke out at the Thiruvallikeni Government Maternity Hospital (Kosha Hospital or Kasturbai Hospital) in Chennai tonight. Thus there was tension.

Firefighters were called in and the fire was put out immediately. Minister Sekarbabu, Block MLA, was present at the hospital where the fire broke out. Udayanidhi Stalin inspected the Hospital. Minister Sekarbabu later told reporters that a fire broke out in the refrigerator of the room where the doctors were staying on the 2nd floor of the hospital. Thus the smog spread to the pediatric emergency department.

The 47 children who were subsequently treated at the hospital were safely transferred to other rooms. Children suffering from smog are currently receiving intensive care.All areas of this hospital will be inspected immediately. Appropriate action will be taken to prevent such accidents in the future. This was stated by Minister Sekar Babu.
