UPI Launched in Sri Lanka and Mauritius

India launched Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on February 12. Mauritius also got RuPay card services.

Indian citizens have made the first UPI transaction in Sri Lanka and Mauritius.

“Today is a very special day for the three ocean. FinTech connectivity will not only strengthen cross-border transactions but also strengthen connectivity,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the launch event.

Talking about the convenience and speed of UPI transactions, the Prime Minister said that last year more than 100 billion transactions were done through UPI worth Rs. 2 lakh crore or 8 trillion Sri Lankan rupees or 1 trillion Mauritian rupees.
